IIM Bodh Gaya was inaugurated in August 2015. But it was nowhere close to the other IIT campuses that boast of huge buildings, sprawling grounds, state-of-the-art facilities and much more. In 2018, when Vinita S. Sahay took charge of Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Bodh Gaya, she was greeted with a vast tract of land filled with shrubs and the occasional centuries-old tree, two four-storied dilapidated hostel buildings occupied by former students of Magadh University, and one building with two and a half rooms
There was no full-time director, senior administrative staff and no permanent faculty. In addition to this, the students of Magadh University refused to move to the 118-acre land, which was allocated to them. Amid these situations, the first batch of MBA students (2015-17) had already graduated
Over the years IIM Bodh Gaya has undergone several overhauls and now has a sprawling new academic building, a sports complex, students’ hostels and faculty quarters. The MBA fee is Rs 17 lakh and the ratio of permanent to visiting faculty is 1.75:1
Starting with less than 40 students per batch under its regular full-time MBA programme, it now has nearly 300 students for the 2023-25 session. It managed to place all its students in the 2016-18 batch and since then the number of job offers and size of packages have swelled
The median remuneration has jumped from Rs 9 lakh to Rs 16 lakh. In 2023, over 80 companies visited the campus for recruitment, up from 30 in 2020, and the highest package has nearly tripled in 2023 to Rs 48.58 lakh from Rs 16.25 lakh three years ago
With this, IIM Bodh Gaya has made its debut in the top 50 institutes in the BT-MDRA India’s Best B-schools Survey 2023. Spread across 118 acres, with 75 acres of reserve land, IIM Bodh Gaya has been ranked 46th on the list, with a score of 681.1 out of 1,000. IIM Bodh Gaya’s placement rank is 28th
“The perception was that it would take 10-12 years to set up an institute like this, but we had to shake that belief”, said Founder Director Vinita S. Sahay. She further shared that after she took over, the first female student was enrolled in IIM Bodh Gaya. Today, 30% of the students are female
18 more permanent faculties will be joining IIM Bodh Gaya soon. It will also launch two specialised MBA programmes- Digital Business Management and Hospital and Healthcare Management. Together, these courses will take its total student count on campus to over 1,100 this year
